“We are
one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending
the United States of America.” –From keynote address at Democratic National
Convention. [2004]
Four years
before he was elected President of the United States, Mr. Barack Obama spoke
these impactful words. President Obama was the first African American elected
to be the President of the United States. Prior to serving as President, Mr.
Obama was an Illinois state senator from 1997-2004, and a United States Senator
from 2004-2008. Mr. Obama was also the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review.
