Heroes Among Us

Every so often on the national news we see videos or images of children reuniting with their moms or dads who have come home from active military service. These reunions are often filled with emotion. When we see the gratefulness and the joy on the child's face that his or her parent is back home, it is a reminder of the sacrifices made by both parents and children.

As National Military Appreciation month draws to a close, let us remember the children of active service members who know our national heroes as Mommy and Daddy.

The following library titles are written for children of military parents, and one of them is written by a woman whose father served. Stop by the library and check them out.

  • Hero Dad by Melinda Hardin and illustrated by Bryan Langdo; JF H
  • Hero Mom by Melinda Hardin and illustrated by Bryan Langdo; JF H
  • Year of the Jungle by Suzanne Collins and illustrated by James Proimos; JF C

For more resources about children of military parents go to this website and click on the Family tab.

The library staff would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the current and retired service members who are a part of the Sullivan University community. Thank you.
