May is Military Appreciation Month

This month is National Military Appreciation Month (NMAM). While ultimately, the best way to appreciate our military is to make sure they never have to go in harm's way, the sad fact is that until humans can put aside violence (if ever) many in service to our country will have to do just that. To start our series honoring of NMAM, let us tell you of some good ways to show appreciation to our deployed military.

You could join an organization such as Soldiers' Angels. An excellent program they offer is called Adopt a Soldier. By joining Adopt a Soldier, you commit to writing at least one letter a week and sending at least one care package per month to a deployed soldier. This commitment lasts until the soldier's deployment ends. You can learn more about this program here: http://soldiersangels.org/adopting-a-soldier.html.

Another way you can show appreciation is through Operation Write Home. This is especially good for you crafters and scrapbookers, as this program consists of you making and/or collecting greeting cards, sending batches of them to deployed soldiers who then have a way to stay in tough with loved ones back home. You can discover more about this program here: http://operationwritehome.org/about-owh-2/

Other ways you can participate can be found on on the official web site of NMAN, here: http://www.nmam.org/participate.htm
